Bill Clinton Attends Premiere of 'The Way,' Cheers Film and Related Foundation (Video)
On Wednesday evening, THR was among merely a couple of media shops attending for any special NY premiere of Emilio Estevez's The Way In Which, which opens in theaters today. Held like a fundraising event for that Walkabout Foundation, a non-profit organization providing you with electric wheelchairs to paralyzed people all over the world who can't afford them, the big event was attended by former U.S. leader Bill Clinton, a buddy from the foundation's founders. Following the lights emerged, Clinton gave a seven-minute speech by which he cheered both film and also the foundation (see above video). The first kind leader, who had been supported towards the event by daughter Chelsea Clinton, stated: "Allow me to start by saying thanks to Emilio Estevez, producer David Alexanian, and my pal Martin Sheen -- who, after i left the Whitened House, grew to become my leader, 'cause he was still being around the West Wing... I thank those who chose to make this beautiful movie... I really want you to understand you probably did a positive thing tonight... Thanks again Martin. Thanks Emilio to make this movie." VIDEO: Martin Sheen Stars in Emilio Estevez-directed 'The Way' Trailer The Way In Which first tested in the 2010 Toronto Worldwide Film Festival (where I caught it). It stars Sheen (Estevez's father) like a tightly-wound physician who decides to try and complete the epic "pilgrimmage" over the Camino p Santiago -- a stroll of 485 miles across The country along "The clear way of St. James" -- that his free-spirited adult boy (performed, properly enough, by Estevez) was trying to accomplish when he got caught inside a storm and died. The film is remarkably moving (because of an excursion p pressure performance by 71-year-old Sheen, who naturally engenders more goodwill than nearly any actor I'm able to think about) and funny (thanks, most importantly, to some great supporting performance by Dutchman Yorick van Wageningen), and will also be hardpressed to locate a better story in regards to a father and boy, friendship, and belief this season.
